My name is Bob Kohut and I have lived in this house in Oak Park for 36 years. I have two adult sons who both live nearby but my oldest is planning a return to Brazil, where he has visited and worked several times in the last few years. I am semi-retired and I am tired of rattling around this old house with just me and my two large but very friendly dogs.
Oak Park is the first suburb west of the city of Chicago. I live close to the elevated train that runs to downtown Chicago. It's about a twenty minute walk to the train but there is a bus stop only 3 blocks from here that connects to the train. If you have access to a car, my garage has room for it. I have three large private bedrooms available, furnished. The house has two full bathrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs. The upstairs bath has a whirlpool. There are laundry facilities in the basement and I also have a pool table down there. There is a fenced yard with patio and barbecue grill. You would have full access to the entire house. I have a very large kitchen/family room with a 50" HDTV and surround sound speakers for when you have time for a movie or some television. The upstairs also has a den/tv room. I work part-time so my presence here varies. If you like company, I would love to spend time with you. If you like privacy, the upstairs den has a tv and stereo system. I look forward to sharing my home with you.

I hosted my first student in January of 2009 and it turned out to be one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. He was a young man from Libya studying medicine at Kaplan University here in Chicago and although he moved in here to learn more about the American way of life I know I learned as much from him as he did from me. He took me on "virtual" tours of his country via google and I learned how little I knew about the Muslim world and its rich culture. He recently left me and my next student was a young Korean studying English as a second language at the Intrax Institute in downtown Chicago. His studies were less intense so we had the opportunity to spend more time together and once again I find I am discovering how little I knew about the eastern world. I try to provide these young men with a home away from home, not just a place to stay. My young Libyan friend, with whom I am still in contact, referred to me as his American father. That is a priceless feeling.
I have since hosted students from Italy, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Japan, Taiwan, Russia and China. I would welcome you to my home.
