My husband Scott and I have hosted students from Mexico, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Columbia, Lybia, Saudi Arabia and UAE. We love helping our students learn about life in the USA and we love learning about their cultures. We have one 18 year old daughter that still lives here with us. She will be starting college in September.
We have a large 6 bedroom house, with 3 rooms available for students, which include beds, desks, lamps, dressers and closets. Our home is in a very nice, safe and quiet neighborhood. The student rooms are located on the first floor of our house and have a shared bathroom. There is also a private living room for our students with nice newer couches and a large study table, a 46 inch big screen HDTV/DVD/Blue Ray player and high speed WiFi internet access. Shared Laundry facilities are provided at no charge. We will provide your laundry soap.
It is our goal to make your stay in the United States fun and educational. All of our students have quickly become members of our family. We stay in touch with them and our very first student has even come back to visit! We enjoy taking our students on short road trips to visit fun and interesting places. We also invite our students to join us when we do fun activities such as movies, plays, lake cruises and visits to historical landmarks. We have a fire pit in the back yard and enjoy evening fires.
We LOVE to cook, and enjoy cooking many different meals for our students. We cook a full dinner meal in the evenings and provide food for the students to make their own breakfast, and lunch to take to school. There are also snacks available. During the summer we bar-b-que outside and eat on our deck overlooking the back yard.
We have two small Bichon Dogs. The dogs are hypoalergenic so will not bother you if you are alergic to other dogs. The dogs are allowed upstairs in the family area of the house only and not allowed in the student area.
Smoking is alowed outside only. We do not smoke, but have had students who did in the past.
We are three blocks from a bus stop where a bus will take you directly to the English Language School (ESL) and Spokane Community College. The bus ride is about 40 minutes.
I am on facebook and have many pictures of us having fun with our students located there. I will be happy to email you pictures of our home if you like and answer any questions you might have. I look forward to talking with you. Please contact me on facebook or via email. My email address is bkjolseth@gmail.com. I will be happy to provide pictures of our home and answer any questions that you have.
Within the first two weeks we will be happy to help our students with the following, if needed:
Acquiring an American cell phone for use in the US.
Setting up a bank account with Bank of America.
Shopping for needed items that could not be packed.
Riding the bus with you to school and back home so, that you are comfortable traveling back and forth.
