Room may be available longer than shown--contact me for more details.
I’m a professional chef, caterer, teacher & writer offering rooms in my home to students and professionals since 2008. I provide self-serve breakfast and cook a gourmet dinner each night. I have 2 bedrooms—1 single and 1 single or double—in my sunny, 100 year-old Victorian house with antiques, curios & character. Wireless Internet available at no charge.
I’ve lived in Brazil & France, and traveled to other countries. I speak Portuguese, French & Italian.
The house is in a safe, quiet neighborhood. Somerville is next to Cambridge, and is full of small stores, cafes, restaurants and other places popular with students from Harvard, MIT and Tufts. There’s a huge immigrant population, so there are many shops and restaurants: Brazilian, Tibetan, Latino, Asian even Halal.
15-minute cab ride from Logan Airport. I offer pick-up service from airport, train & bus stations.
To Harvard: 20 minute walk or 10 minute bike ride; 25 minutes by bus + subway.
To Downtown: 20 minutes by bus + subway.
5 minute walk to bus stops, which go to Orange, Red + Green Lines.
If I’m headed in the direction you’re going, I’ll drive you to the subway stop or other landmarks. I’m often available for hire to drive you in my car—just ask!
Street parking is available.
I do NOT accept smokers, and guests do nut use fragrances, as I’m allergic.
Rental is from Sunday to Saturday, so please plan to arrive on a Sunday and leave on a Saturday. Check-in time is 3:00 pm. Check out time is 10:00 am
Security deposit of 1-month’s rent, refundable when you leave. $200.00 non-refundable deposit to hold the date.
I have 1 single and 1 double room, but since I provide meals, my rates are per person, single occupancy, even in the large room which can accommodate 2 guests.
Price is for single occupancy for 4 weeks (28 days,) Sunday to Saturday. The price for a second person, who books with the first, to stay in this room is an additional $1000.00 per 4-week (28-night period,) and for a third person the price is an additional $800 for a 4-week period. $50.00 per night for shorter stays.
House Rules:
-Guests clean up after breakfast: put dishes in dishwasher, wipe counter & table.
-Guests rotate setting table & cleaning after meals: washing dinner dishes & pans, load dishwasher, sweep, take out trash & recycling. Guests have limited kitchen privileges: minimal refrigerator space, no freezer. No cooking is permitted other than making coffee or tea, hot cereal & boiling eggs unless otherwise negotiated.
-Dinner is served when ready, between 7 & 8 pm. If you won’t be home for dinner, please tell me the night before.
Because my refrigerator is full with food for my work—and my guests—I do not save dinner for lunch the next day. Dinner is served at night; if you don't come home for dinner, it is not available to be eaten for lunch the next day.
-A Bento lunch is available for an additional $7.00 per day.
-Guests sign up by Thursday morning for weekend dinners.
-Additional guests are not permitted unless arrangements have been made with me prior to any visit. Overnight guests are not allowed.
-Cell phones are not allowed at the dinner table.
-Guests clean up after themselves, and keep their rooms clean. I provide bed linens, towels & laundry detergent to use in my washing machine. We hang our clothes to dry—or use the dryer at the Laundromat at the corner (guests pay.)
--Guests clean up after themselves in the bathroom: no hair in sink or bathtub.
--Guests remove shoes at home to not track in water, snow & mud.
--People outside your room should not hear your music, computer, phone, etc.
--Quiet hours are between 10:00 pm & 8:00 am.
--Guests limit shower time to conserve water. No washing clothes in the shower.
--Do not put hot pots, especially the kettle, on the countertop or breakfast table.
